01 What this site collects

The Long Table is a set of static pages. There is no reader account, no login, no newsletter list and no comment system, so there is nothing for a reader to sign up to and nothing for us to store about them.

Like any website, the server that delivers these pages records the ordinary technical information needed to serve a request and to keep the site working. That information is not used to build a profile of a reader, and it is not sold or passed to advertisers.

02 Email sent to us

If you write to the address on the contact page, we keep the message for as long as it takes to deal with it, and we keep correspondence about corrections so that we have a record of why a piece changed. We do not add correspondents to any list.

We do not publish readers' names, family details or circumstances. If you send us something about your own household, it stays between you and the editorial desk. That rule is part of the editorial policy and it does not have exceptions.

03 Other people's services

These pages load no third party fonts, no advertising scripts and no social media widgets. Everything the browser downloads to display an article comes from this site. That keeps the pages quick and it keeps the reader out of anyone else's records.

Where an article links out to another organisation, that organisation has its own privacy arrangements, and following the link takes you into them. Our own coverage of what exists in Britain is in support for separated parents.

04 Children and this site

Nothing here asks a child for anything. There is no form, no account and no way for a reader of any age to submit information through these pages, which removes the whole category of problem at source.

The articles themselves are written for adults, and several of them, including asking children how it is going, deal with what a child says at home. We write about those conversations in general terms and never reproduce a real one.

05 Changes to this page

If any of the above changes, the page changes with it and the date at the foot of the site moves. We do not expect it to change often, because a site with no accounts and no tracking has very little to revise.
